"Cheesemaster is a mini-web game created in partnership with the Swiss Radio Television (RTS) and the HES-SO Valais. This ephemeral game was an integral part of the Dataland special, broadcast by the SSR throughout Switzerland in 4 languages. In the end, more than 15'000 players participated in the experience.
The game was accessible from any internet browser. The objective was to show live, at the end of the broadcast, how a seemingly innocent game can steal your personal data.
DNA Studios did all the design and developed the frontend.
Dataland
The program was broadcast on November 21, 2018, an operation coordinated by Olivier Cajeux for SSR. The project management was done by Julien Scheckter and Bastien von Wyss from SSR.
The program was dedicated to the personal data left online by users and their possible use for commercial purposes.
Throughout the program, viewers were invited to participate in the Cheesemaster game, available free online with any internet browser.
The concept
Viewers were invited to play Cheesemaster under the guise of a "man versus machine" experiment. Players had to collaborate across Switzerland to beat an artificial intelligence.
Each player had a cheese factory that was constantly producing - to increase production, they had to go to different stations in the factory, in the form of mini-games. A ranking between players encouraged them to stay online and play as much as possible.
In fact, the game collected player data and created a profile for each user."
